Angela Peralta Theater.
Named for the Mexico's "nightingale," the Angela Peralta Theater is a historic landmark that was restored to its original grandeur in the late 1990s. The Theater is situated on the fringe of Plaza Machado. Built in the 1870s, the performing arts theater was originally named the Rubio Theater. It wasn't until the death of opera singer Angela Peralta in 1883 that the theater was renamed. Peralta died shortly after giving an impromptu performance from the balcony of her hotel suite in Mazatlan. She was in town to star in a series of sold out opera performances.
